With this in mind, different solar systems (Photovoltaic and thermal) are installed at our premises with constant development in order to keep abreast with latest technologies to provide our clients with accurate and reliable data.
We have realised that water will become a serious problem all over the world. To this end, a rainwater harvesting system was designed, developed and installed at our premises. Combined with a solar powered irrigation system has proven to be a workable and sustainable combination.
DSP is in the process of and has finalised a couple of projects, in addition to sharing knowledge and assisting peers with sustainable designs.
The University of Pretoria commissioned a campus to house their initiative called Future Africa to develop leadership in transdisciplinary research in Africa for high profile African scholars, postdoctoral fellows and postgraduate students mainly Ph.D and Master’s level.
A model for dynamic living and learning environment with the emphasis on dynamic research was designed. Buildings will make use of advanced eco-building solutions and will be equipped with renewable energy generation systems and will allow researchers to continuously improve its sustainability set-up by experimenting with new forms of energy generation, resource management and maintenance of common areas.
I-CAT 50kWp Embedded Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant
Scope of Works prepared for the installation of a 50kWp plant. This work consisted of one roof mounted PV array system as well as associated support framework structure with a peak capacity of 50kWp as a baseline. The PV was designed with a lifespan of 25 years with first year annual performance guarantee. This plant was designed with a solar collection area of 462m² and a grid tied connection (point of supply) was installed connecting to an existing grid via inverters.
Touwsrivier 50MW Concentrated Photovoltaic System
Concept engineering was supplied for planning and design based on basic engineering documents provided by the client. All calculations, layouts, circuit arrangements, safety studies etc. were conducted to perform the works according to technical specification of CPV Systems and CPV Plant Auxiliaries with all norms and regulations applied.
Solar Models and Sun Tracking Demonstrations and Environmental Factor considerations were prepared.
DSP was approached by ZZ Fresh to assist in the design of their Toscana Farm operations. The design and implementation was done to comply with Green Star Energy ratings as per SANS 204:2008 Energy Efficiency in Buildings. Energy modelling was done with the Green Star SA energy calculation and the design complied with ASHRAE Advance Energy Design Guides. It was demonstrated that the building’s greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced to below the Conditional Requirements.
